As you like it

As You Like It was the Stanford Shakespeare Company's 2022 winter show and our first in-person production since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic. I worked closely with my best friends Audrey Senior (Director and Adaptor) and Abla Ghaleb (Producer) to create a graphic design that reflected the show's gorgeous and bright 18th century pastoral and floral aesthetic. We wanted the graphic design to invite the audience to join the characters in the Forest of Arden and experience all of the love and festivities the forest had to offer.

Role: Graphic Designer for the Stanford Shakespeare Company

Skills: Procreate and Canva

Description: I spent 8 weeks from January to February of 2022 graphic designing for the Stanford Shakespeare Company's 2022 winter show. I was tasked with creating a poster, an Instagram advert/sticker, banners for Eventbrite and Facebook events, a program, and an original font for the show's poster.

The Process

Audrey and I met at the beginning of January to discuss her vision for the show. I wanted to first understand the world we were building since I was unfamiliar with As You Like It. From there, we determined what elements of the poster we wanted to catch the peoples' eyes, including the sun bursting through trees, 2 figures off in the distance, and an original font for the title. Audrey's vision was very specific and while I found the process challenging, I ultimately felt such incredible satisfaction when I was able to create exactly what we envisioned for the poster.

The Program

The program was another considerable challenged I faced because it was the first I made for print (rather than the pdf programs I had made for our online shows). I organized a summary of the show, a director's note and a producer's note, a list of cast and crew and cast and crew bios, an about the Stanford Shakespeare Company page, and a page dedicated to the language of flowers into 7 pages. I also designed flowers for the language of flowers's page and little doodles for the margins to make the program feel like we were peaking into Orlando's

personal diary.
